Our History
EAF was organized in 1993 at Miami-Dade County as a Not-For-Profit Association. The organization is registered in the State of Florida and duly recognized by the U.S. Department of Internal Revenue Services as a 501C(3) organization.

National Affiliation
The Edo Association of Florida, Inc. (EAF) is a member of the Edo National Association Worldwide (ENAW), which is an umbrella organization of all the Edos worldwide.

Our Mission

The mission of Edo Association of Florida, Inc. (EAF) is to promote Edo language, Edo culture, and social values, cooperate with other legitimate organizations to provide opportunities for all Edos in Florida, show the good image of Nigeria, assist the needy in our community with economic; immigration; education; cultural integration; and to append and embrace the rich multi-cultural diversity of Florida, United States, and Edo State, Nigeria.

Our Objectives

Our objectives are noble and worthy of our distinguished membership. They include, but are not limited to:

  • Promote our culture and social values, in conjunction with other Nigerian and African cultures.
  • Cooperate with other Nigerians in the attempt to promote the GOOD IMAGE of Nigeria both at home and abroad.
  • Develop avenues of helping Edos who are in need of assistance.
  • Organize social and cultural activities in accordance with the laws of the state of Florida and the United States of America.
  • Assist the community and members of the Association with immigration, educational awareness, economic and all other legitimate problems as needed.
  • Promote/provide self-help and enhance unity among members
  • Promote and help educate all Edo children in the Edo languages.

Contributions to South Florida Economy and Community

  • EAF hosted the ENA National Convention of the Edos in the North America in September 1999 and 2011. Dignitaries attended from Europe, Nigeria, and other parts of the world!
  • The 1999 convention took place at the Embassy Suites Hotel, Miami, FL 33142.
  • The 2011 convention took place at the Doubletree Hotel, Miami, FL 33126 Free Annual July 4th Independence Day Picnic and Cultural Festival.

Key Programs

  • EAF worked with the Florida Department of Children and Families, and the Dependency Court to place two children whose parents were involved in fatal domestic dispute with relatives in 2004.
  • EAF collaborated with Miami Dade County in the cleaning of our parks and community.
  • EAF aided and collaborated with the US Census Bureau in the last concluded census.
  • EAF have donated thousands of Science, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, Literature and English Language books to a new Library in Benin City, Nigeria.
  • EAF donated scholarships to under-privileged and deserving university students in Edo State.
  • EAF has annually rewarded deserving graduating college kids in our community with stipends.
  • EAF hosts Free Annual July 4th Independence Day Picnic and Cultural Festival in Miami—this is undeniably the largest outdoor gathering of the African Community in South Florida. Now in its 23rd year, the Picnic has culminated into a flagship event in South Florida and has been featured in numerous Media outlets. EAF collaborated in 2015/2016 with the City of Miami Gardens in bringing this free annual picnic to Miami Gardens’ citizens.
  • EAF special thanks and donations to orphanages in Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria.
